Black Swan 06005 Powder Boiler Stop Leak 1 LB (453.6 Grams), specially designed to repair leaks in steam and hot water boilers. This stop leak is for new and existing systems. This product works on high and low pressure heating systems and withstands high temperatures, high pressure, expansion, contraction, and vibrations. This product will not interfere with the operation of the system, and the system will not have to be shut down to use this product.
To use this stop leak, the boiler must be hot. Powder boiler stop leak will not work in cold boiler. Wait until the water is hot. This powdered boiler stop leak can be poured directly into the boiler. For best results mix powdered boiler stop leak with hot water before injecting into system. For severe leaks, fill large cracks with lead/steel wool or tin foil and seal the outside with Black Swan Iron Paste. Allow a sufficient time to dry. Then introduce powdered boiler stop leak. Powdered boiler stop leak is not used for domestic hot water storage tanks. Use it for heating systems only.
Directions:
Have boiler at working pressure, allow the system to "let-down" so that the safety valve can be removed safely. Pour the powdered boiler stop leak into the system. Replace the safety valve, and then bring the boiler to as high a pressure as safety limits permit. If the leak is severe, lower the boiler water level bellow the leak before adding powdered boiler stop leak. Then refill the boiler and bring it to a high pressure. Keep the boiler at full fire for 24 - 48 hours to make for a stronger seal.
For steam boilers use one pound for each 1500 square feet of radiation. For hot water boilers, use one pound for each 1000 square feet of radiation.
